Sevenfold Sevens In The Psalms

Sevenfold Sevens In The Psalms

1) The word blessed is used 49 (7x7) times in the Psalms.

You can search these verses out yourself in Pure Bible Search. Just choose "search within" the Psalms.

2) There are seven Psalms that begin with Blessed:

Psalm 1, 32, 41, 112, 119, 128, 144

3) There are seven Penitential Psalms:

Psalm 6; 32; 38; 51; 102; 130; 143

4) There are seven Imprecatory Psalms (basically, these are prayers for God to judge or take vengeance on their enemies):

Psalm 35; 58, 59, 69, 83, 109, 137

5) There are 77 Psalms attributed to or connected to David:

72 Psalms) There are 72 Psalms directly attributed to David within the Psalm titles themselves. (Please check them out yourself. There are too many to list here.)

+1) The ending of Psalm 72 indicates David wrote that Psalm too.

Psalms 72:1, 20    A Psalm for Solomon. Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son... The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

+2) Parallel passages shows David wrote Psalm 105 and Psalm 96 - see 1 Chronicles 16:7-22, 23-33

+2) Two Psalms are quoted in the New Testament and attributed to David. Psalm 2 is quoted in Acts 4:25-26, and Psalm 95 is quoted in Hebrews 4:7.

Acts 4:25-26 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

Hebrews 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

6) Seven times Psalm 34 refers to being saved or delivered:

The seventh time it refers to the greatest deliverance: redemption from sin and Hell.

A. Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

B. Psalm 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

C. Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

D. Psalm 34:17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

E. Psalm 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

F. Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

G. Psalm 34:22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

There are a lot more of this type of seven in the Psalms, but I will save those for another time. Wanted to share one of my favourite ones first.

7) Blessed is the (that) man is stated 14 times in the Bible:

A. Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

B. Psalm 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

C. Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

J. Proverbs 8:34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

K. Isaiah 56:2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

L. Jeremiah 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

M. Romans 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

N. James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

*For clarification: When a multiple of a number is used, it has the same meaning as the original number. For example, seven means perfection, completion, and is God's stamp on His Word. A multiple of seven has the same meaning, sometimes heightening or magnifying it, but the same underlying meaning. So 14, 21, 70, 490, etc. all have the same symbolic meaning in the Scriptures. There are so many sevens in the Bible, but you will often find many passages where a multiple of seven is used as well. Like here.
