Sevens Regarding Elijah And Elisha

Sevens Regarding Elijah And Elisha:

I wanted to see if I could come up with 7 or 14 sevens associated with Elijah and Elisha. Praise the Lord, I did with God's guidance. Granted, a couple of them are only loosely connected - but here are 14 sevens for you.

1) Elijah performed 7 miracles

Both of these first two points are listed separately. Please click on the link above for the account of the miracles of these two servants of the Lord.

2) Elisha performed 14 miracles

3) Elijah resurrects the widow’s son - first of seven individuals resurrected by men:

Nine individuals were resurrected in the Bible (seven by men, two directly by God):

A) Widow’s son, raised by Elijah - 1 Kings 17:21-22

B) Shunammite’s son, raised by Elisha - 2 Kings 4:34-35

C) A man, raised by touching Elisha’s bones - 2 Kings 13:21

D) 12 year old girl, raised by Jesus - Mark 5:41-42

E) Widow woman’s son, raised by Jesus - Luke 7:14-15

F) Lazarus, raised by Jesus - John 11:44-45

G) Jesus, raised by God the Father - Romans 10:9 (Jesus is the seventh person raised back to life)

H) Dorcas, raised by Peter - Acts 9:30-40

I) Eutychus, raised by Paul - Acts 20:10-11

4) Elijah caused it to stop raining for 3 1/2 years, and will cause it to stop raining for 7 years altogether.

See point 5 in the above linked page.

5) Elijah sent his servant seven times to look for rain:

1 Kings 18:43-45 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not. And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

6) 7000 men that have not bowed down to worship Baal:

1 Kings 19:18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

7) The child that Elisha resurrected sneezed seven times:

2 Kings 4:32-35 And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed. He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the LORD. And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

8) Naaman dips himself in the Jordan seven times and is healed from his leprosy:

2 Kings 5:14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

9) 7 years of famine prophesied by Elisha:

2 Kings 8:1 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.

10) 7 raptures in the Bible:

This is an adapted list from a Youtube channel. These are people that were carried away to Abraham's Bosom prior to Jesus Christ's resurrection or directly to Heaven after He arose.

A) Enoch:

Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

B) Elijah:

2 Kings 2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

C) Jesus Christ:

Acts 1:9-11 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

 D) Paul:

2 Corinthians 12:2-4 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

E) The church:

1 Corinthians 15:51-52 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

F) The elect at the end of the tribulation:

Matthew 24:29-31 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

G) The two witnesses:

Revelation 11:11-12 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

11) After Elijah and Moses appeared to Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration, the Father says, This is my beloved Son - stated seven times altogether:

This is my beloved Son - stated 7 times:

Matthew 3:17; 17:5
Mark 1:11; 9:7
Luke 3:22; 9:35
2 Peter 1:17

In whom I am well pleased - stated 5 times with the previous statement:
Matthew 3:17; 17:5
Mark 1:11
Luke 3:22
2 Peter 1:17

When the Father spoke on the Mount of Transfiguration - after Moses (the representative of the Law) and Elijah (the representative of the prophets) appeared - all three passages say, “Hear him":
Matthew 17:5
Mark 9:7
Luke 9:35

The Father’s voice from Heaven is heard seven times altogether in the Gospels. John 12:28 is the seventh time.

There are three separate occasions the Father spoke about His Son:
1) At Jesus’ baptism - Matthew 3:17
2) At Jesus’ transfiguration - Matthew 17:5
3) After Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem - John 12:28

12) John the Baptist came in the spirit and power of Elijah - he was one of seven people named by God before he was born.

13) 7 main people or groups of people in the book of Revelation:

My list of seven main people or groups of people in Revelation:
1. The two prophets (Moses and Elijah) - chapter 11
2. The woman clothed with the sun (Israel) - chapter 12
3. The Man child (Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God)
4. The dragon (with seven heads and seven crowns on his heads) and his angels
5. Michael and his angels
6. The beast - chapter 13
7. The false prophet.

14) Sevenfold description of the two witnesses in Revelation 11:

Lord willing, down the road I would like to write a post explaining this chapter in more detail, but for now here are the cross references that clearly show that these two witnesses are Moses and Elijah. No one else in the Bible fits all seven of these particulars.

Revelation 11:4-6

A) These are the two olive trees,

In Zechariah’s day these two witnesses were Joshua, the High Priest, and Zerubbabel, the Governor (from David’s line): Zechariah 4:11-14 (now are Moses and Elijah).

B) and the two candlesticks

Ie. witnesses to the Jews: Moses represents the Law and Elijah the prophets. See Daniel 9:24-27; Malachi 4:4-6; Matthew 17:1-8; Luke 24:44; Matthew 5:14-16; Revelation 1:12, 20; 2:5

C) standing before the God of the earth.

Exodus 34:5; Psalm 106:23; 1 Kings 17:1; 18:15.

Elisha is the only other individual said to stand before the LORD in 2 Kings 3:14; 5:16.

D) And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

Numbers 16:31-35; 1 Kings 18:38; 2 Kings 1:9-12; Luke 9:54-56

E) These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: (ie. for 3 1/2 years)

Elijah - James 5:17; Luke 4:25

F) and have power over waters to turn them to blood,

Moses - Exodus 7:17-21

G) and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

Moses - Exodus 7-12, especially Exodus 9:13-15

Notice, also the last three verses of the Old Testament (Malachi 4:4-6) refer to Moses and Elijah; they both appeared to Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration; and are the two main witnesses of the OT, representing the Law and the Prophets (two of the three divisions of the OT mentioned by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself in Luke 24:44).
