Some Sevens Related To The End-Times
Some Sevens Related To The End-Times
1) The Day of Christ is mentioned seven times in the New Testament:
Most of us understand the Day of the Lord is the time period that covers the tribulation period until the Great White Throne Judgment. It is what is happening on earth when the Lord Jesus Christ is judging the whole world - from the tribulation, on through the Millennium, and culminating in the Great White Throne Judgement.
What many are not aware of is the references to the Day of Christ. This is what is happening with the church in Heaven while the Day of the Lord is happening on the earth. While these two periods overlap (during the seven year tribulation period), they are referring to two different spheres (ie. the church in contrast to the nations of the world). If you read the context of each of the references to the Day of Christ, you will see that this includes specific events regarding the church, from the rapture, to the Judgement Seat of Christ, and ending with the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.
A. 1 Corinthians 1:8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
B. 1 Corinthians 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
C. 2 Corinthians 1:14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.
D. Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
E. Philippians 1:10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
F. Philippians 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
G. 2 Thessalonians 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Modern versions and many commentators love to change or "correct" this last verse to say "the day of the Lord," but in fact it is referring to the church being raptured after the falling away but before the Antichrist (the man of sin) comes on the scene. Seven references to the Day of Christ, but the modern versions wilfully ruin this pattern.
2 Thessalonians 2:3 also refers to that day, but it is not specifically named.
2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
Seven is God’s number of perfection/completion, and eight is associated with the Lord Jesus Christ and new beginnings.
2) Seven times cleft/clift of the rock is mentioned:
The cleft of the rock is a symbolic name for Petra, the city built in the rocks that Israel will be hidden in and protected during the Great Tribulation (the second half of the seven year tribulation). The Biblical names of that city are Bozrah (which means sheepfold or fortress) and Sela(h). Several references are to actual clifts and caves, but some are referring to a specific place in Israel.
We first see Moses being put into the cleft of the Rock (which pictures being hidden in Christ) in order to see God's glory, then we see other references - both to the literal city and to the spiritual refuge found in the Lord Jesus Christ. The verses below in Jeremiah and Obadiah refer to this city, and the Song of Solomon refer to both to being hidden in Christ and to being hidden in the the city during the persecution caused by the Antichrist.
Revelation 12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days. See also Revelation 12:17-21.
A. Exodus 33:22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
B. Job 30:6 To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.
C. Song of Solomon 2:14 O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.
D. Isaiah 2:21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.
E. Isaiah 57:5 Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks?
F. Jeremiah 49:16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
G. Obadiah 3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
