Eliphaz's Sevenfold Promise In Job

Eliphaz's Sevenfold Promise In Job:

Job 22:21-28

1) Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace:

2) thereby good shall come unto thee.

3) Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

4) If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up,

5) thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.

6) Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

7) Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence,

8) and thou shalt have plenty of silver.

9) For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty,

10) and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

11) Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee,

12) and thou shalt pay thy vows.

13) Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee:

14) and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

Fourteen things Eliphaz says is promised to the person who gets their focus fully on God.

There are various things Job's friends say that are partially right and partially wrong. God never promised believers they would be physically rich. There have been some believers throughout history that were blessed in this way - however, what He does promise all His children is this:

Matthew 6:31-33 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

If we seek the Lord and His will first, He will meet all our physical and spiritual needs. We don't need to be rich in this world to be rich in God. If He meets all your needs every day as those needs come up, you don't need a huge bank account, a room full of silver and gold - you just need the Lord!

The second thing worth noting out of the above quote is part 13. If someone has the idea that we just name it and claim it - if we imagine it we will have it, or make some sort of "declaration or decree" like the charismatics - then they are attempting to make God into their own personal genie, and that will never happen. However, if we mean we decree a thing through prayer to the Lord, and plan according to the leading of the Holy Spirit and the Scriptures, it will come to pass, that is Biblical.

Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Psalms 37:5-6 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

*For clarification: When a multiple of a number is used, it has the same meaning as the original number. For example, seven means perfection, completion, and is God's stamp on His Word. A multiple of seven has the same meaning, sometimes heightening or magnifying it, but the same underlying meaning. So 14, 21, 70, 490, etc. all have the same symbolic meaning in the Scriptures. There are so many sevens in the Bible, but you will often find many passages where a multiple of seven is used as well. Like here.
