Hezekiah's Sevenfold Trust In The Lord

Hezekiah's Sevenfold Trust In The Lord:

Recently I posted about how there were seven kings that were like no other. King Hezekiah was like no other king in the way that he trusted in the Lord God. No matter what the enemies stated to him, he took it to the Lord in prayer and trusted in God and His promises, not in man.

2 Kings 18:5 He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.

A. After this explanatory passage about Hezekiah, there are seven verses in 2 Kings chapters 18-19 referring to what Hezekiah and the people of Israel were and were not trusting in during Hezekiah’s reign:

1) 2 Kings 18:19 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

2) 2 Kings 18:20 Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

3) 2 Kings 18:21 Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.

4) 2 Kings 18:22 But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

5) 2 Kings 18:24 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

6) 2 Kings 18:30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

7) 2 Kings 19:10 Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

The exact same thing is also portrayed in Isaiah 36-37:
Isaiah 36:4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 15; 37:10

B. A sevenfold promise of deliverance from the LORD:

The Lord God honoured King Hezekiah's complete and utter trust in Him, and promised not only to deliver the king and the people that looked to Him alone, but to protect Jerusalem in such a way that the enemy would not enter the city OR EVEN SHOOT AN ARROW TOWARDS IT. That is amazing, especially in light of the fact that the Assyrian army had conquered all the surrounding nations AND the Northern Kingdom of Israel! But Judah and Jerusalem were spared and protected.

2 Kings 19:32-34
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria,
1) He shall not come into this city,
2) nor shoot an arrow there,
3) nor come before it with shield,
4) nor cast a bank against it.
5) By the way that he came, by the same shall he return,
6) and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
7) For I will defend this city, to save it,
for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

The same promise is also stated in Isaiah 37:33-35.

We  have the same God today. What are you afraid of? The enemy cannot touch you or do anything against you unless your Heavenly Father allows it, and if He does, it is completely within His will and according to the bounds He has set. Consider Satan's limited activities in Job 1:12; 2:6 and Luke 22:31-32.

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

Hebrews 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
