Sevenfold Promises To Blot Out Or Not Blot Out People's Names

Sevenfold Promises To Blot Out Or Not Blot Out People's Names

Seven times the Bible says God will blot out or not blot out people or their names. There are other references to things being blotted out, but these seven verses deal specifically with God blotting out a person or their name (ie. from the Lamb's Book of Life):

1) Exodus 32:33 And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

2) Deuteronomy 9:14 Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.

3) Deuteronomy 29:20 The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.

4) 2 Kings 14:27 And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

5) Psalm 69:28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.

6) Psalm 109:13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

7) Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Notice the middle verse (number 4) and the last verse (number 7) are negative, stating God WILL NOT ("No, Never!") blot out the name of Israel or the believers’ names that are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. While God will blot out those who reject Him and His Word, He treats true believers completely different. Whether dealing with God's people in the Old Testament (ie. the remnant of the nation of Israel) or the Christians in the New Testament (ie. the church, the bride of Christ), if you have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation, God has promised to NEVER blot you or your name out of His book. That is eternal security indeed! It's not a threat - it's a promise. See 1 John 5:4-5.
